All-Star.. For his ability at playing on both left and right wing and for the flair and earnestness he demonstrates in attack |
Mick Crotty played minor hurling for Kilkenny in both 1963 and 1964 without achieving National success. In 1969 he had the unusual distinction of winning senior hurling county championship medals in two counties - in Cork with U.C.C. and in Kilkenny with James Stephens. Mick first played senior hurling for Kilkenny in 1969 in a National League game against Wexford. He won his first senior hurling medal in 1972 when he gave a thundering display. An injury in that game consigned him for months to the unwitting role of a spectator. He won further senior All-Ireland medals in 1974, 1975 and 1979 and a National League medal in 1976. Regarded as one of the quiet men on the field, his work rate and effectiveness could never quantified in mere words. At,club level he was especially effective as his unselfish attitude, commitment and skill were an example to his team-mates especially younger players. He has won All-Ireland Club Championships in 1976 and 1982 and has served as a Kilkenny senior county selector in 1983, 1984 and 1985. |
