1975 ALL-STAR ACCOLADE

For his supreme self assurance and the exciting spirit of adventure he has shown at such an early
stage of his senior career

Brian had a spectacular underage career when he won colleges, minor and U-21 All-Ireland medals and his captaincy of the victorious Kilkenny minor tearn in 1972 was particularly significant as he became the first jaines Stephens' player to captain an All-Ireland winning minor side. He first played senior hurling for Kilkenny in a National League game versus Limerick while still a minor but his first major senior award was in 1974 when he was a member of the victorious All-Ireland panel. He won a further senior medal in 1975 and his greatest moment came in 1982 when he captained the victorious Kilkenny team, thus becoming the first james Stephen's player to receive this honour. Playing at full-back on the famous "double double" winning side of 1982-83 he will be remembered for his ability to out-hurl such prolific scorers as Tony Doran andjimmy Barry Murphy. A recurring knee injury brought a premature end to his playing career, an occurrence which must surely have cost him further national honours. As a teacher in the club nursery - St. Patrick's De La Salle, he is actively involved in underage hurling. He has served as a county senior hurling selector in 1988 and followed a period as  selector and trainer of the club senior hurling team, by leading Kilkenny to All Ireland success in 2000
