Next into the fray were thejunior hurlers who defeated Clomantagh No. 2 10-2 to 0-2 in the first round.
On the 29th September we again lined out against Thomastown, this time in the first round of the senior hurling championship played at Thomastown. The result: Thomastown 4-5, james Stephens 3-2. Thomastown were deserving winners in a hard-fought game which didn't have great hurling. Tim Kelly of Killarney was an impartial referee. Thomastown had first use of the fairly strong breeze and led at the break 3-4 to 1-2. Murray scored all our first half scores. In the second half from a Holland 70, Larking forced a goal. Even though we attacked all during this half we could not break down the resolute Thomastown defence and we also drove a lot of wides. Tierney scored a goal to end our scoring. Holland was injured in this half and was replaced by Tommy McGuinness.
Our team on this sad occasion was: jack Carroll capt., Mick Larkin, Paddy Walsh, Martin Tierney, W. Lyons, P. Deviin, M. Bergin goal, Peter Foley, C. Murray, Philly Dwyer, Tommy Wyse, M. Curran, Martin Giceson, P. Lawless, jimmy Holland.

After fifteen minutes we led by 4-0 to 0-1. But at half time we only led by 4-0 to 3-1. Our first half scorers were Meade two goals and Shortall and Dwyer one goal each. W. Walsh pointed a '70' in the second half but then Ballyragget levelled. But near the end we again took over and goals by Walsh and Dwyer scaled the issue. Our team was: J. Dunne, capt.; E.
